Monster Redfish Classic A Big Success
by: No Bananas Fishing Reviews
The Kayak Fishing ClassicS launched their 2011 Series Year with the Monster Redfish ClassicS presented by Diablo Paddlesports and hosted by Jack Willies Tiki Bar & Grill. The event was held on January 15 in Oldsmar, Florida which is the Old Tampa Bay area.
At launch time there was a hint of cold in the air as the sun broke over the horizon. The wind was calm and it looked like a nice day was on the way. This time last year, it was bitter cold for the inaugural event and it actually snowed and sleeted. This year looked much more promising however the bay waters were a chilly 54 degrees. The anglers launched their kayaks to fish the warmer creeks in the pristine area.
As the day warmed the anglers worked their way out of the creeks and onto the flats. Warmed by the sun the redfish began to dine on the many offerings such as RiverBum Flies, High Roller Lures and D.O.A. Lures. All of which carried a Bait Bonus for the anglers. The Kayak Fishing ClassicS is trying out a new bonus points system this year by awarding 20 Bait Bonus Points to anglers catching entry fish of these baits, all of whom are major sponsors to the ClassicS. Many of the anglers took advantage of the new system as it was evidence to its success at the photo weigh in.
A top notch awards ceremony followed the weigh in Derick_Burgos_Captures_First_Place in ClassicS Kayak Fishing Tournament at Jack Willies in Oldsmar. The unusual eatery features a baseball motif combined with tropical Tiki situated on the water of Old Tampa Bay. The awards ceremony was bristling with an overwhelming amount of kayak fishing gear provided by the generous sponsors of the ClassicS. Last year awards ceremonies were great and this year is even better. There was over $8,000.00 in sponsor gear on the tables for the contestants and it showed. The ceremony was very well organized and presented, as usual and has become a high class affair for all involved.
The top five winners received a kayak anglers Christmas of sorts however there was something for everyone which is unique to the ClassicS. We look forward to their next event in February as do the anglers and host sponsors.
