Kokatat Tempest Pants Review |

When I first heard about Kokatat's new pants my first impression was it's about time. Right from the beginning of my kayak fishing journey I started using breathable waders with a semi dry top when the common wear was a wetsuit. I couldn't see why I would want to be wet. As anglers continued to join the sport those I didn't directly introduce were influenced by someone I had. Breathable waders are nice but they needed a bit of improving. That's exactly what Kokatat has done. They evolved the wader into a better garment for kayakers. The first thing I noticed is they're lighter then my breathables. The material is thinner. Since they're designed to be used with a kayak this made sense. It makes them more supple and comfortable. The pants sock and bottom design is the same as Kokatat's Supernova dry suit. The sock is the same material as the pants and there's a Velcro cuff guard for boot tops. The top part is a Velcro closure system used on dry tops except it is very soft and supple. The pants are going to fit folks differently. I have the large and they are a mid waist for me. The top of the pants is a bit below my sternum so they're somewhere between waste and chest high. These things are so comfortable. The waist closure is so soft and supple that you don't notice it. These have become my favorite outerwear garment. The higher waist works well with a semidry top whereas my waist high waders only worked with a true dry top. While the target market are kayakers I can see wading fishermen getting them too as they're just so comfortable. Since the booties are fabric socks I use neoprene socks over them to protect them. They're the same socks I use with my Supernova. |
