Report: The weather here has continued to be unpredictable with the temps actually in the 50's a few mornings...the water temp even dropped into the 60's on the flats and has basically stayed cold...this has made for sluggish bonefish action at best but they are still around when the daytime sun heats the shallower flats and tend to be big and hungry...more snook are being caught as they finish off the baitfish pods and snapper have been on fire in the little channels coming out of the mangroves...redfish is the best bet right now and they are more willing to eat with several nice redfish being hooked in the last week...sharks and barracuda ensure any live bait has a short job at hand in mid depth water. The fresh water fishing has been steady with less rain so the canals are getting back to normal water levels...largemouth bass are aggressive and fat and the peacock bass get fired up when the sun gets high...look in the deeper pockets where the water will be slightly warmer as they need above 70 degrees to function...exotic species such as cichlids, talapia, oscars and guapote will also give good sport during mid day. |
