Report: November and December are our transition months … transition from summer to full winter. It is also a time of plenty. It is a time to catch all the summer species, as well as, all the winter species. Ten different species of fish and more caught on a single trip are common. Huge schools of bait fish (white bait) flooding the shallows drawing in most everything that swims in these waters.
Snook is fish of choice in December and there are always plenty of snook around. HOWEVER, for those wanting to target bigger snook and tarpon, I would suggest early December rather than later. When the water cools late in the month, most of the bigger fish move offshore to warmer water. The big fish that remain can be frustratingly finicky. Whether a traditional guided “shore-launched” trip or trip on the Yak Attack, fishing is usually very good in December. Looking at last year’s records … the “Chokoloskee Fishing Team” from the Jacksonville Kayak Fishing .com website had a great trip with one fly angler catch over 15 snook on the last day for the four day trip.
Most popular and the “biggest bang for your buck” are the 3 day; 2 night kayak fishing/camping trips into Everglades National Park. In December, we have these trips scheduled every Friday/Saturday/Sunday. We use the Yak Attack transport boats to bring our anglers, outfitted fishing kayaks and all our gear for three days and nights of fishing. Since we have the boats, we can bring lots of amenities including some very large coolers … the eats are awesome … Stone crab appetizers, fresh fish, homemade conch chowders, pot roasts, omelets … you get the idea. The second week of December we are also doing a Special Trip to Wizard Creek night fishing for snook under the full moon. You can keep track of the fishing on all our camping trips, as well as, the day trips at this link. “Ringer” Rich Jones reports on the last camping trips are post here … http://www.evergladeskayakfishing.com/kayak-fishing-reports.cfm
