Paddling Anglers in Canoes and Kayaks formed in March 1998 with about ten enthusiasts looking to share the fun of Gulf Coast fishing from small boats.  Meetings have been held monthly since then, first at Pecos Jack's Wilderness Furnishings in Sugar Land.  Then from 2001 to 2004 at the Red Cross Building located on Hwy 59 South in Houston.  Starting January 2005 meetings moved to the REI store on Westheimer Road in Houston.

PACK has grown over time but our focus has always been camaraderie and fun while supporting safe legal fishing from kayaks and canoes and advocating environmentally sound use of marine resources.  We sponsored the largest ever canoe and kayak fishing tournament and BBQ on the Gulf Coast in April of 2001.  PACK, with the help of TKF put on quite a tournament, with over 65 anglers and over 85 people in attendance overall.  We continue to hold tournaments each year and make numerous trips, including weekenders to places like Matagorda Island and Goose Island State Parks, Cedar Bayou and the Padre Island National Seashore.  We are continually planning new paddling and fishing adventures throughout the year

Most members fish in saltwater because of the proximity of the bays and Gulf  to Houston.  Kayaks have become the boat of choice because they are easier to maneuver in the frequent winds along the coast.  Meetings have included a variety of speakers about fishing and boating as well as crawfish boils and fish fries.  But mostly they focus on planning outings and swapping stories about previous adventures over cold refreshments.  There is no better place to learn about canoe and kayak fishing the Texas Gulf Coast.
