The Kayak Fishing Association of New York E-mail

The Kayak Fishing Association of New York was founded in May of 2007 to further the sport of kayak fishing with a keen eye on conservation and to promote safe, effective, and environmentally sound recreational kayak fishing practices. The club is dedicated to being a positive influence and voice in the fishing community and the communities we are a part of.

The KFA-NY holds monthly indoor meetings in the winter months and monthly kayak fishing outings from May to October. The KFA-NY also is an upstanding member of the community by leading and participating in beach clean-ups and supporting charitable causes.

In 2007 the KFA-NY had five kayak fishing outings, starting with the first trip in June in Mattituck. On this outing members caught fluke, porgies, striped bass and sea bass. Other outings throughout the rest of the year were held at Manhasset Bay, Moriches Bay, Sunken Meadow State Park and Shinnecock. Our anglers caught blues, striped bass and fluke on these outings. On these outings the KFA-NY holds safety in high regard. Anyone participating in an on the water outing must follow all Coast Guard regulations and members are encouraged to have a VHF radio as well. At one KFA-NY outing, all of the members present practiced self rescue prior to the outing starting. Members who are experienced in fishing the area lead the outing and provide members with information about the areas and fishing strategies.

Currently the KFA-NY is in the process of finalizing its meeting and event schedules for 2008. Indoor meetings will be held in the winter which include presentations, guest speakers and safety clinics on such topics as proper gear and protection for cold water fishing . We will also be having our annual holiday party in December. As with all indoor meetings all are welcome, including non-members. On the water fishing events will take place once a month from May to October at such places as Jamaica Bay, Manhasset Bay and Montauk. The KFA-NY is also planning to be a part of beach clean-ups and supporting charitable events.
