G-Flex Epoxy |

I first learned about West Systems G-Flex from Chris, the owner of Saltwatersports, a Naples kayak shop. Upon returning to Florida for the 2007/2008 winter season I stopped in the shop on my first shopping trip to Naples. Chris filled me in what was happening with the shop and then asked if I knew about G-Flex yet. I hadn’t. I am always tinkering with kayaks and other stuff and what excited me was here was an epoxy that was actually designed to work on plastics and most of the kayaks we fish from are plastic. I had to try the stuff. It even cures underwater. West Marine carried it so I stopped off at the one down the road. I’ve got to tell you it’s as good as the claims on the packaging. I’ve used it for a variety of repairs, both for kayaks and other things as it bonds too many materials. Where I use to use a welding gun to make many kayak repairs, G-Flex has now replaced it. If you have a hole in the bottom of a kayak use it, filling holes you’re no longer using, ditto. I knew it was good stuff but a particular repair really separated it from other substances one can use. A Hobie Adventure Island fell off a trailer and got dragged. Resulting in a large hole that one would think would be a total. I called up the Hobie rep and he got Hobie to send me the rear section of the color Adventure. I cut the piece off and welded it on. It functioned fine but the appearance was just ok but not great. My buddy Bob decided to redo it using G-Flex. He mixed in some dye and rather then tell you about it just look at the pictures. They tell the story. |
