Our Reader Reports this week start with nice roosterfish pulled out of the surf at Rancho Leonero at Baja's famed East Cape. And we also have some nice bass caught from around the country. Rancho Leonero, also know as "The Ranch", makes many a kayak angler's bucket list of places to kayak fish. Angler Allen Leepin sent in this shot of a recent success. I was the only kayak fisher ...went 3 for 5 fishing the rudder in the sand and fly lined the huge baits (cabilltos) in the surf.
That's right, he was close enough to step ashore and take a picture of this beautiful fish before setting her free.
Reader Tray Collins sends has been fishing some skinny water creeks in North Texas. He sends the following report and pics.
On a large body of water these fish would be just good fish, but on the small, shallow creeks that I've been exploring they're big bullies.
With the winds high in North Texas over the weekend, I was forced to find protects water. These small creeks have been producing some really good fish. I caught a 5.02 lb LMB back in March and now this 4.67lb, all in less than 4 FOW. I lost one much larger just before I caught the one pictured. Many 16"+ bass have come from these creeks. The one that got away spit the lure on the third acrobatic leap. On its slow retreat in the opposite direction I noticed a second bass turn and casually follow her out. I made a long cast well in front of them with the 1/2oz Rat-L-Trap pictured and BAM! Bonnie got away, but Clyde posed for a mugshot before returning back to the creek...oh yeah, I've named them Bonnie and Clyde.
John Rivera caught this nice bass in Union Lake, New Jersey. He also got into a nice pickerel.
And Greg Boyd sent us this pic of his daughter and one of the first bass she's caught off her kayak.
