Overboard Logo It's happened to us all at some time or another out on the water in our kayaks. We're paddling around heading to our favorite spot, when suddenly without even realizing it you've knocked your favorite (and probably expensive) rod & reel combo into the water. You get that ugly feeling in your gut because the chances of actually recovering the combo are extremely slim. It's probably one of the worst feelings that we as kayak anglers can experience, right up there with having the "big one" come off. It's a sick and frustrating problem that most anglers have had to deal with at some time on the water.

Captain Sean Abbey and John Elomaa started tinkering with an idea in September 2011, and established a company in January 2012. Their aim was to manufacture quality fishing rods that WON'T SINK. When asked how this great idea came about, Capt. Sean Abbey responded, "Overboard Fishing Rods was born during a fishing trip with a good friend of mine, and now my partner in Overboard. While out fishing in the creeks, I watched helplessly as he fell from his kayak and took one of his rods over with him. He dropped the rod and it sank to the bottom of a deep creek bend. We gave up two hours of fishing time to search for that rod, but never found it."

Abbey continued "The following week I talked with someone at the boat ramp that had just bought all new rods and reels to replace the ones his wife had lost. When I asked him what happened, he told me that his wife had flipped her kayak and lost everything overboard." Thus the wheels were set in motion to rectify the problem of losing gear overboard. Today it's not necessarily an issue for us. One of our worst fears has now been eased.

Overboard Fishing Rods are available in a variety of lengths from five to eight-foot, and from ultra-light to near-shore specifications. They'll float reels from nine ounces, all the way up to 6000 series reels, and come in both casting and spinning models. All Overboard Fishing Rods are handmade to exacting standards using PacBay components, due to their superior performance and reliability.

Overboard rods are finely balanced and fit perfectly in your hand. They cast smoothly and are deadly accurate. Overboard also manufacture the Minimus Floating Net. These nets are perfect for the kayak angler as it is a small net with plenty of room for a large fish. And, of course, they float.
