The Lafayette Kayak Fishing Club (42 members and consistently growing as of April 16, 2009) is a unique club of men, women and children anglers who fish fresh and saltwater for redfish, trout, flounder, bass, sac-a-lait (crappie). As you will read, the club is fairly young and it seems we are ever evolving as identity grows each month. The club’s objectives are simple- to gather monthly for club meetings and outings and
to promote the sport of kayak fishing. It's all in good fun with a little competition thrown in on occasion. Club meetings are the 3rd Tuesday of each month where we plan club events and discuss club business. About once per quarter we bring in a special guest speaker to do a presentation on kayak fishing, rigging and related topics. We typically have 1 official club outing per month with several ad hoc trips arranged in between. So, we provide ample opportunities for our members to get together, network, then get out and fish. Several of our members are also members of the well established Bayou Coast Club which concentrates on the Southeast side of Louisiana. They’ve been around about six years and offer half a dozen or so established tournaments in a year. So it’s been nice having outings and tournaments from both clubs to choose from.
A majority of its members fish the states plethora of coastal marshes and bays. We certainly have our share who fish area reservoirs, rivers, bayous and lakes for freshwater species. Membership is $30 and includes a 1 year subscription to the renowned fishing magazine Louisiana Sportsman which normally costs you $24.99 per year.
