logo The Orlando Kayak Fishing Club was founded in March 2007 and has grown to one of the largest clubs in Florida with a total roster of over 380 members throughout the Central Florida region. The objective of the club is to create a community of anglers who fish from kayaks, canoes, and other paddle vessels who share a passion for the pursuit of fish and a desire to protect our resources. Club members promote the sport of fishing and share knowledge and best practices.

Kirk Dunaway, President of the Orlando Kayak Fishing Club

The group consists of all levels of anglers from active professional guides to people who haven’t even bought a kayak yet. Members fish the Central Florida area including the local freshwater lakes and rivers, the West Coast, and the abundant East Coast. Most members concentrate their efforts on the salt waters from New Smyrna to Sebastian Inlet in the Mosquito Lagoon, Indian River, and the Banana River including the popular No Motor Zone.

Popular species club members target in freshwater are largemouth bass and crappie, and shad during the season. Most members focus their efforts on the coast since both the east and west coast are within easy driving distance for most, and inshore species consist of redfish, spotted seatrout, snook, and tarpon during season.

Club members regularly participate via an on-line forum on the main website and through monthly meetings. These meetings are held at various locations in Central Florida including Mosquito Creek Outdoors in Apopka, Bass Pro Shops on International Drive in Orlando , and Gander Mountain in Lake Mary . Monthly meetings include a guest speaker to speak about topics relevant to the club including professional fishing guides, conservation organizations, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and other speakers.

The club also regularly participates in community activities such as the Lake Eola Swan Roundup in order to provide veterinary care to downtown Orlando ’s population of over 90 resident swans, Wekiva Riverfest, and local charity fishing tournaments.

The club also organizes monthly fishing outings with the location chosen by popular vote. Many members use the club forum to find fishing partners and there are many fishing trips members plan among themselves all throughout the week and weekends.

The club is a no-dues organization that exists based on the donations and contributions of its members and all are welcome to participate. To learn more about the club and participate in the on-line forum go to www.orlandokayakfishingclub.com .
