Report: Fishing has been pretty good in most of New Jersey’s small lakes, where water
temps have been in the mid 50's to high of 60's. The bass are all tight to cover and mostly shallow. Fishing plastic baits as close to cover as possible. If you’re not getting snagged or losing rigs you’re not fishing close enough.

Days vary but you can count on catching Largemouth along with any combination of Crappie and pickerel in the mix. If you want only pickerel troll a small Berkley Frenzy about 100' behind your kayak. You won't be able to keep the pickerel off your line.

Round Valley Reservoir and Merrill Creek should be turning on very shortly. As of the first week in May water temps in both locations never exceeded 50 degrees. So they are still pretty cold. Concentrate on many of the smaller spots for better hook ups and success ratios.

Remember that catch and release on all Bass is still in effect until 6/15/09
