Report: This last month in the Hawaii has been nothing less than perfect. The weather has been absolutely beautiful. We have had some really great days on the water with very light winds and glassy calm sea's. As the mainland prepares for winter, we in Hawaii prepare for endless summer. Sometimes it truly is hard to tell that we are in fall. Air temperatures are still in the upper 70''s and the water temperature has been in th 80's.

The fishing this last summer was truly amazing. Due to recent conservation measures and or unreal currents the bait fishing has been the best it has been in years. Large piles of bait are still stacked up on the shoreline and we have been able to do a lot of live bait fishing this year. The large winter swells that rock the north shore of Oahu where do business are slow to arrive this year. There has been no substantial swell as of October 1st. What this does is allows the bait to remain on the beaches. It won’t belong before we finally get a big open pacific swell that will scatter all the bait out to deeper water. Until then we will continue to catch bait for the freezer and use live bait for our tours. There has been a particular item that has been very fun to use. It’s the shimano live well bag. this will keep 30-40 pieces of bait alive all day on one of our fishing tours. The shimano bags fits right in the yak and is so well designed it has caught my clients numerous fish.

The inshore run is at its most productive time right now. The predator fish have discovered that the bait is helpless on the beach. Often when we live baitfish from shore we see all kinds of predators crash the pile. It’s a pretty exciting thing to watch especially when it’s in about 4 feet of water. Hers a list of the species we have been catching on the inshore run. Bonito, trevally, amber jack, ladyfish, barracuda, pacific grey snapper and needle fish.

For those who are new to the islands these tours offer so much besides fishing. The Hawaiian Islands are home to all types of marine life. The green turtle population is very large. Soon the hump back whales will make their trip to Hawaii. Hawaiian monk seals bask on the beach. I would suggest if you live on the mainland, in some cold winter spot, that you make like the humpbacks and take an annual trip to Hawaii. You wont regret it. Aloha and a hui ho
