Report: high winds have kept me off the water all week long...this is normal for this time of year...as the wind increases so does the temp and the daylight hrs and this is all very good for here...when the wind dies out the water will be set for white hot action...this is the time when the huge permit really show for me and huge schools of bones are out at all phases of the tides...very large redfish are now schooling and coming back to the extremely shallow muddy flats...baby tarpon are coming out of somewhere and will be around freshwater creeks and canals up by the mangroves nailing floating crabs and minnows...I have even been seeing many over slot snook working the backs of stingrays in very shallow water...had lots of hookups right until the wind came up...all in all I fully expect the flats to be near full throttle over the next 2 weeks and can’t wait to begin again on Monday....

The freshwater canals that I fish are still dead as far as exotics and peacocks...still have yet to see a peacock over 6 inches since the freeze and not a single cichlid or talapia etc....however, the grass carp and jacks are going off every morning, even in the nasty wind...carp are really fired up because of the berries starting to grow and fall in from the wind and competition is very high under the trees...I was even taking them on SPOONFLYS!!! The carp are running from 15lbs to 30ish lbs right now....tarpon should be back when the wind dies out..
