I wear mine (the inflatable type) anytime the water is over 6 feet deep.

When I am on the flats in Florida it is behind my seat.

Default Teaching young ones

My son is 6 and he goes with me every time I go fishing So I wear it all the time so he will learn to do the same. You can not replace your young fishing buddy.

Default PFD & safety gear

I'm in a sea kayak. I always wear my kokatat PFD on the water. It's very comfortable and it holds a lot of my safety gear. I keep a folding knife, whistle, VHF radio, signal flares, signal light, a small compressed gas boat horn, and a "fuzzy rubber" head covering rolled up. The fleece lined rubber hat looks like something out of monty python, but it holds heat well when wet. I also always go out with an inflatable dual chamber paddle float, bilge pump, and a large loop of floating poly rope. The rope gets wrapped around the combing and provides a step to assist in paddle-float self rescue wet re-entry, if needed. Sounds like a lot of stuff, but it's really not.

Default Fishing gear I always seem to need

Apart from the usual tackle and gear for stripers and blues on the north shore of Long Island, I've found it an incredible asset to have a "boga" grip and 6" long pliers type hook remover. I always have them tethered to the boat with a stretch cord and clip. Nothing makes it more easy to hold the catch, remove the hook, and safely revive and release the fish.

I wear mine all the time. I admit I did not use to but it woudl look bad if a Pro Staffer drowned!!

For those wearing the inflatables, have you tried deep water re-entry with it on? I found it impossible.
