THE DIFFERENCES:

The Raptor’s uniquely shaped bow is designed to shred waves, deflect spray, yet still maintains a low profile reducing the effects of windage.

  • Though comparable in weight, its width, measured along the seat section, is much narrower. This allows for easy paddle strokes and it’s easy on the knuckles too.
  • The pontoons also help to shield the rudder from any rocks or bumps you may accidentally encounter.  The stiff keels are the thickest area since they take the most wear.   You can store the kayak on any cross rack  without worry about deformation.

The Raptor’s uniquely shaped bow is designed to shred waves, deflect spray, yet still maintains a low profile reducing the effects of windage.

Raptor Kayak--Santa Cruz

I had been wanting a Raptor since the first time i logged into Jim's website but the only problem was he was in California an i was in Alabama with no dealers even close to me--this was a problem i thought until i gave Jim a call an my problem was solved in a matter of minutes(literally)he had me a price including shipping an my Raptor was on the way !!!!!!SUPER nice guy to talk to an deal with. When i recieved my boat the packaging was unbelievable no way my boat was going to be damaged unless a tractor or something fell on it !!!Now--this is the most remarkable kayak i have ever owned--UNBELIEVABLE !!!--stability on the water is awesome an i"m a pretty good size boy-6' 245#--short of falling out or just purposely make the boat flip over --IT WON"T. Fast -turn on a dime-tons of storage--absolutely a definate head turner on the water-everyone asks where did yoou get it !!!!!an whenyou let them pilot it you can see them smiling 40 yards away !!!There is absolutely nothing i could say negative about this kayak- NOTHING-an Jim an the guys at Santa Cruz are awesome. Now that Jim has come out with the SOT Raptor i'mjust waiting on the right color an one of those will be headed to Alabama. Keep up the great work guys---AWESOME KAYAK !!!!!

santa cruz kayaks, raptor

I love thiis boat!!! this yak paddles effortlessly through the water. It turns on a dime. I am a 6 ft 185 lb guy and fit very comfortably with all the gear I bring. Mainly I fish for big catfish and gar, but also fish for rays, reds, jacks and shark at the coast. Standing to sight cast is no problem at all. I throw a 7 ft cast net with no concern of tipping. The raptor has tons of room inside for gear etc. this is truly a world class yak and couldnt think of a boat I would rather have. if you fish from a yak, do yourself a favor an paddle a raptor.

Raptor Test Drive

I would have to honestly say that I never rode in a kayak that was so stable. With the split fin design, my wife and 4yr son gives it a thumbs up. Here is a video of me loading it and unloading it in a local lake to test drive it with my 4yr old son.

In the sitting position, it is impossible to flip the raptor. The plus to this is that if my wife was riding it, she says that its better than the Ocean Kayak we have, because it keeps her completely dry! Wet tooshi, means no more fishing and we have to get out of the water immediately, because she is cold. LOL

You can get it with the rudder or without. Here is a video of me loading it up with fishing gear in a milk crate strapped into the backside.

As you can see it goes through kelp easily and water hardly gets in. Speed is like any kayak its size/weight. I totally enjoyed it. I noticed they have a facebook page also, I had to LIKE it! LOL
