The Best Kayak I have ever paddled

I am relatively new at Kayaking but not fishing, now add Kayaking and fishing together and that makes for an interesting but wonderful combo.

My first kayak was a Cobra Explorer I loved it at the time but I found it to be a little easy to tip, though I never did, I found myself almost going in 2 times on my first trip out. Soon after that I borrowed a buddies Tarpon 140, and also found this to be a little wet in the seat and also tippy. A friend of mine, which I'm sure many of you may have heard of, Jim Sammons, was telling me to get an Ocean Kayak. Here is a guy who has been doing this for many years, knows what he is talking about, and helped design these Kayaks, so I listened. In fact I bought one of his Ocean Kayak Prowler 15 Kayaks. Not much different from the trident.

I love this Kayak, it paddles fast, straight(no rudder), and when paddling out through the surf it cuts through the breakers. When Landing from the surf, as long as you are doing what you should be, the Kayak does what it is suppose to do.

I have heard a lot of people moving to the peddle style kayaks, and that's fine, but I'd rather have that storage space than have peddles in my way. I love my Prowler 15 and highly recommend the 15 or 13 to others.

Nice boat

It's my first kayak so I cannot compare it to anything else. I've been fishing Caribbean using it for more than a year now. It is almost always windy here and 10-15 knots trade winds and pretty choppy sea are usual conditions. I didn't buy it with rudder pre-installed so I added it later when I started to feel the need for it. After that it became even more comfortable.

The only things I don't like about that kayak are front hatch and rod-pod lids. They have lost their original shapes pretty quickly thanks to tropical heat/sun and water from wave splashes started to get inside the hull. Not much though. I heard that newer rod-pods come with much better lid and it can also be installed on older kayak so the only unsolved problem is front lid.

It is very good kayak for novice like myself and I'd buy it again.

Great Yak

I've fished this boat for 2 seasons now. and love it. Its only down side is its weight and the reach for some features as I'm 5'7" I'd have given it a 5 if it had come with the new Rod Pod modular hatch lid which comes on the new boats. I've added it to mine and it really improves the fishability in my opinion.

great fishing sot

bought the trident 15 may 2009 and use it on a lake and in costal waters.the boat handels my 300 lb nicely ,there is lots of space for any fishing gear you will need and its very easy to rig.the long water line (for this kind of boat)helps to maintain a streight line, turning is easy enough if you have a radder system.the boat is very stable in the water,in the surf the trident 15 climebs over waves ruther then punchin through them and all in all, its a dry ride.no doubt one of the best fishing sot kayaks in the market, the only possible competition is probably offered by the willdernes tarpon 160.

Built to fish

I started to research for another boat after a year kayak fishing out of a Manta Ray 12 which was my first boat. I wanted a boat that was built more for fishing and also wanted a longer boat for when I fish off the beach. The Trident had just come out at the time, and the ads listing all its features pretty much had me hooked.

I ended up orderingthe Trident 15 Angler edition with a rudder. The boat is definitely faster than my Manta Ray 12 and I have plenty of leg room for my 6ft frame. There hasn't been any conditions where I didnt feel secure in the boat; even when some rolling waves come at me as a boat passes by. When fishing shallow waters with minimal winds I am able to stand up and fish but it requires some balance. The weight of the boat hasn't been a issue though I have to lift it over my head and onto my SUV. Its high weight capacity allows me to load up for a weekend getaway and camp in remote places or islands. The rod pod lets me stow my rorods for when I launch through the surf and protects them from the saltwater if I rollover in the waves. Even my 7ft rods store easily in the rod pod which runs the full distance of the boat.

After owning it for a couple of year I have since added a Humminbird 597ci fishfinder and an anchor trolley. I have no regrets gettting the boat and still recommend getting it over anyother boat out there right now. You can find plenty of information, reviews, and even see pics of how people have rigged their Trident up with a search online.

Fast and versatile

This is a great yak. Big enough to handle my size (240) and yet light enough to manhandle at 60 lbs. With a few strokes this baby glides across the water almost effortlessly. A little tough to turn around at 15 and a half feet but very stable, dry and roomy. Also a great boat to troll from or drift. Much better since I got a rudder installed, it is not almost hands free in a good breeze or bit of a current. Very pleased with the purchase and outfitted great with a 343c Humminbird, just so I can see the fish I'm not catching.

My 1st fishing Yak

My 1st Kayak for fishing and very happy with purchase. Nothing to compare to but no complaints as of yet. Looks cool, is fast for a SOT, and stable (no swims after 1 season). I don't have a GPS/fish finder for the sonar shield yet, but location is a far reach for my 5'8" size.
