Fifth Annual Jamaica Bay Kayak Fishing Tournament
Hosted by Kayak Fishing Stuff - The Leader in the Sport of Kayak Fishing.
The Fifth Annual Jamaica Bay Kayak Fishing Tournament will be held on Saturday, May 3th, 2008. Last year's tournament was a great success, even though bad weather hindered the actual competition, over 200 kayak fisherman joined in on the many activities and the pre-fishing days had anglers enjoying the cooperation of all three targeted species - bluefish, striped bass and weakfish. More than 60 people attended the kayak fishing demo and learned about this great sport. This year we will change things around and have the actual competition on Saturday and Sunday will be the alternate rain day (If we have the Tournament on the Saturday, Sunday will just be a fun fishing day for those who choose to stay around and enjoy the great fishing the Bay has to offer this time of year). Online Registration will begin on February 15.
The purpose of this event is to increase awareness of the incredible natural resource that we have in Jamaica Bay and to promote environmentally friendly activities like kayak fishing and to promote organizations like Casting for Recovery. The tournament will be a catch-and-release event to keep with the conservation theme.

All proceeds from this event go to Casting For Recovery. Casting for Recovery is a national non-profit support and educational program for women who have or have had breast cancer. This group provides an opportunity for women, whose lives have been profoundly affected by the disease, to gather in beautiful, natural settings and learn fly-fishing, "a sport for life." Just as importantly, this tournament offers an opportunity to meet new friends and have fun. Casting for Recovery is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that relies solely on donations to provide fly-fishing retreats to hundreds of breast cancer survivors every year. Your contribution is tax-deductible as permitted by law, and will help us expand our capacity to meet the ever-growing demand for our services. Through your support, we will be able to continue to enhance the lives of breast cancer survivors all across the country by providing retreats that promote mental, physical and emotional healing.
